Fresh travel and tourism news from Russia
Provided by AGPHistorically, Indonesia has only made limited and irregular purchases of Russian crude, relying instead on imports from the Middle East for about a quarter of its oil needs. Much of this supply typically passes through the Strait of Hormuz, a route currently affected by geopolitical tensions.
The agreement follows high-level discussions between the two countries. According to reports, Russia’s president hosted Indonesia’s leader for extended talks in Moscow, which were followed by a meeting between their respective energy ministers to finalize areas of cooperation.
Beyond immediate fuel imports, Indonesia is also looking to deepen collaboration with Russia across several strategic sectors. These include long-term oil and LPG supply arrangements, as well as potential partnerships in nuclear energy and mineral resource development.
“We have achieved quite good results, allowing us to increase our crude oil reserves. In addition, we will also be able to obtain LPG,” Bahlil said following the discussions.
LPG, a mixture primarily composed of propane and butane, is widely used for household cooking, heating, and certain transportation applications. The talks were attended by representatives from several major Russian energy firms.
According to reports, future shipments of Russian crude to Indonesia could originate from ports in Russia’s Far East, with tankers traveling through established maritime routes such as the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca—pathways already utilized for exports to other Asian markets.
The move reflects a broader shift in Russia’s energy strategy, as it continues to redirect exports toward Asia after facing extensive restrictions from Western countries in recent years.
